Some sharing
I just sent out a big email update and thought I’d share it here as well:
Friends and Family,
If you are currently Boston-based, I’d like to invite you to attend two events coming up in the next two weeks. Rather, if you’re a state, country or hemisphere away, I’m very happy to just be sharing this news with you:
“Hot for Teacher” Opening Reception, Friday the 21st from 6-9pm at the Howard Art Project, 1486 Dorchester Ave, Boston, MA
The gallery/studio space I co-founded and site of my April thesis show is having our inaugural exhibition which opens this Friday. “Hot for Teacher” is curated by one of our studio members and MFA peers, Alaina Gurdak, and is presents work that explores the intersection of teaching and art practices. We hope to see you there for this momentous occasion of our gallery going public! http://howardartproject.wordpress.com/
“HOLY GHOST” Public Artist Talk (Wednesday, the 26th) and Opening Reception (Saturday, the 29th) at 301 Gallery, Montserrat College of Art, Beverly, MA.
HOLY GHOST is a month long series of performances featuring Boston-based artists. Every week a new event inhabits the 301 Gallery. For the last week, I will be showing a new work along with Phil Fryer, Sandrine Shaefer and Zayde Buti. http://www.montserrat.edu/galleries/301/
“To Gnaw with Gratitude” Essay in Gnome Art Quarterly
Kimmy Ruth, a MFA peer and studiomate, has introduced Gnome (http://gnomemag.com/) to the world. For the first issue, I was asked to contribute a writing on the MFA Studio Art experience, which you can read online here: http://gnomemag.com/?page_id=347. The first issue will print in December.
Art100 and “Backwards and Forwards From Memory”
The Art100 LMU Alumni exhibition opening reception that took place at the end of September was a huge success! It was amazing and quite surreal to see so many old friends and former classmates and their new work. I showed two pieces, a sculpture, “Tasting Station for Dubbel Zoute Drop”, that has now been shown in it’s third exhibition in three states, and a new video piece made for the show called “Backwards and Forwards From Memory”. You can watch a short clip of the work here: http://vimeo.com/28436685, but if you are currently LA-based I’d highly recommend seeing the work in person as it’s quite a different experience. http://cfa.lmu.edu/laband/exhibitions/current.htm
So that’s it! Thank you all for your support - it keeps me going in great part.
Much love and thanks,
Erik
