WITHIN, AROUND, AND ABOUT THE MFA

Installation photograph of Backwards and Forwards From Memory, 2011.
The Art100 opening was almost three weeks ago. It seems like it was just the other day, but things are moving quickly. I’m running out of time, which is as exciting as it is sorta sad. The opening was packed though! A great turn out and some pretty nice artwork up on the walls. I was able to catch up with some old friends and as it turns out, many of them are considering applying to MFA programs. They may have caught me at the wrong time to ask me for advice as I reeked of jadedness, even though I am so so thankful about the past two years. It may have come off like I was just over it. But I tried to tell them that was not the case! It’s just exhausting you know, the MFA experience. Exhausting and incestual.
But the show was great. It is great! And I was able to sneak away to Los Angeles for a tragically short three nights. And now I’m back into it, a week into October, that is turning into undoubtedly my busiest month of graduate school. But the energy is good! I’m having stressful moments more and more often, but the energy is good. I snuck down to NYC this past weekend to work the book fair and in the second half of the month I have the debut exhibition and open studios of my new studio/gallery space, the Holy Ghost exhibition at Montserrat, AND my first thesis committee meeting. It’s just a little much combined with teaching and TA’ing.
But the energy is good! So I’m here trucking on. And let me tell you, thesis things are a’coming and they are looking really good… at least in my mind.
